The three main players in the massive smuggling of fake paintings will spend some time behind bars. Wolfgang Beltracchi gets six years, his wife, Helene, four years and their accomplice Otto Schulte-Kellinghaus five years.
The defendants - in operation since the 1980s - were sentenced on account of fourteen paintings, while some experts believe that hundreds of their forgeries are still on the market. A total of 53 paintings have officially been identified as inauthentic. For a complete list of works, click here.
